SB: Chapter 7

The moment Fu Ruien found out he had been blacklisted by Qiu Qiu, he called his secretary. “Go check for me where Qiu Qiu and Xiao Li are dating.”

The secretary was stupefied. “……how do I check that?”

“Get someone to track Xiao Li’s cell phone,” Fu Ruien said.

“……how do I track it?”

Fu Ruien’s temper exploded. “If you can’t even accomplish this small matter, what do I need you for? You don’t need to come to work today.”

“……Boss, today is a national holiday. I didn’t have to come in for work.”

“Fine. Then roll over here and work overtime today, ba.”

“Boss, I’ll go check right now.”

The boss wanted his little lover and his little lover’s ex-girlfriend checked to see what they were talking about, and this made the secretary feel awkward. This kind of secretive meeting is obviously something no one else should know of, so the secretary had to think of a plan.

Fortunately Xiao Li loved gossip. Every little thing is written in the □□ blog; her □□ blog was even open to the public so anyone could see it. The secretary found Xiao Li’s Weibo, WeChat, and Zhihu account, and following the vine to get the melon, he was finally able to check for a clue.

Last night, Xiao Li went on Zhihu to ask:

《The pretty-faced, heartless scum of an ex-boyfriend said he wanted to meet me tomorrow afternoon in the campus garden. What do I wear to pressure him?》

The most popular comment was:

Set up a red carpet.

…….The secretary thought that young people nowadays make dating seem really interesting.

Qiu Qiu didn’t know that Xiao Li had already finished the script, and that was absolutely no penalty fee of a hundred thousand dollars. She only wanted to find an excuse to meet up with Qiu Qiu again.

She’s but an upcoming dramatist. If she didn’t give a good looking person some kind of drama, then how could she be a dramatist?

Qiu Qiu’s red pocket money came out to be a total of fifty thousand. Other than the fifty thousand, he used a little bit to buy a bouquet of flowers and a box of sweets. The flowers were in the colors that Xiao Li liked and the sweets were also in the flavors that she liked.

Qiu Qiu’s merit and fault was the same——he was just too good of a person.

He was good to the point where he didn’t like Xiao Li, but allowed her to pursue him, and even showed empathy and pardoned her. Whatever he saw was beautiful or delicious, he bought her for. He wasn’t teasing her or provoking feelings from her, he only……he only had too good of an upbringing.

However, in Xiao Li’s eyes, this boyfriend that she failed to capture was more perfect than she imagined. Grew up handsome, loved cleanliness, had good grades, would play basketball and guitar, and most importantly, he would love her; every time they saw each other, he always gave her a small gift——she’d like to ask which girl’s boyfriend would pamper her so much ah?

So Xiao Li could not comprehend why the boyfriend who she had been chatting with about their next date, would suddenly talk about breaking up the next day!

It must be because he was cheating! No longer faithful! Some hussy must have wrapped around this sugar Tripitaka! [1]

Xiao Li vented for a long time but Qiu Qiu didn’t change his mind. Ultimately, Xiao Li took advantage of Qiu Qiu’s sense of responsibility and said he owed her a hundred thousand dollars. Qiu Qiu finally decided to act and meet with her today.

Thus, Xiao Li carried a roll of red carpet that she borrowed from the student union before going.

When Qiu Qiu meets up with people, he’s never late. In fact, he arrives at least fifteen minutes early. When he arrived, he just happened to see Xiao Li kneeling with her buttocks protruding, her brow beaded with sweat as she placed a red carpet on the lawn.

Qiu Qiu warm heartedly walked up to her and asked, “Xiao Li, are you going to have a picnic later? Do you want me to help spread the carpet?”

Xiao Li was scared to the point she seemed like a cat with a tail that had been stepped on, but was still pretending to be indifferent. She suddenly stood upright, dusted herself off, and pretended to look around casually at the scenery.

Qiu Qiu handed over the flowers and sweets to Xiao Li and Xiao Li went to recieve it, only to remember that they had already broken up. She could only harden her heart and slap away Qiu Qiu’s hand, her expression impatient as she asked, “aren’t you here to pay the money? Where’s the money?”

Qiu Qiu naively placed the flower and sweets on the red carpet before opening his knapsack, fishing out five stacks of RMB. Not only that, he also fished out an opaque pouch to put the RMB in, all neat and tidy.

“I remember that all your bags are small one-shoulder bags so it couldn’t possibly hold all this money. I prepared a small pouch for you. Don’t hate it for being old. You’re a young lady, with so much money, once you’re on the road you have to be low profile……aiya, why are you crying?”

Xiao Li cried to the point she couldn’t raise her head, and she didn’t reach to receive the money. She raised her leg and kicked the flowers and sweets. On one side, she cried and on another side, she kicked the carpet too.

The red carpet was heavy and huge, who knows how could she have carried it here? It was a big roll, taller than her, and as she wept endlessly, it unfurled.

Qiu Qiu wanted to help several times, but Xiao Li wouldn’t let him. Qiu Qiu could only helplessly watch on the side.

He honestly could not comprehend how women think. Did daddy like men because he couldn’t make sense of women either?

After the red carpet was fully open, Xiao Li stepped to the center of the carpet, wiped her tears and said, “Qiu Qiu! I hate you!”

“Oh……I know, ah……”

“If you want my forgiveness, there’s only one way!”

“……what way?”

“You sing for me one last time!”

Qiu Qiu looked around. The school garden had a lot of student couples at this time. The two of them were students of reputation, and just now, with the red carpet and Xiao Li’s crying, it attracted quite a lot of attention.

Qiu Qiu asked embarrassed, “do I sing here?”

“No.” Xiao Li shook her head and pointed to the plaza outside the garden. “Sing over there!”

Qiu Qiu looked at where she pointed and saw the campus plaza. In the plaza was a simple and crude makeshift stage. The background of the stage was an appalling pink and blue, and at the center hung a banner——

——A City’s University City Top Ten Campus Singers Competition to Reach “Super Generation Voice” in Campus Sea Election

“Super Generation Voice” was hosted by some nameless video website as a small, small, small, small talent show. It was small to the point where, other than this video website, you couldn’t find word of it anywhere else.

In reality, it was because they couldn’t find contestants, so the production team was “inspired” by the bright idea to make a team by a winner-takes-all campus election. The first stop happened to be A City’s University City. They thought this University City had a good few hundred thousand people. It couldn’t be that out of this many, they still couldn’t pull out one talented person ba? As long as there was one person, teacher or student, that was able to take charge of the stage and enter the finals, promoting it with an intelligent charm, then it’s simply a natural hype point!

Where would they have thought that after one picky morning, they would only have five people with advancement qualifications? If it wasn’t for the livestreaming camera behind them, the judges would’ve already thrown down their pens and left.

Xiao Li dragged Qiu Qiu to the sign-up spot.

Because the production team was short on people, the sign-up employee was actually a volunteer assigned by the student union.

Qiu Qiu was the most handsome boy in the school. Every New Year’s evening party, he always had a solo performance; his voice was first class beautiful and his poise was first class wonderful, so when he showed up in front of the volunteering little sister,

“Q-Q-Q-Q-Q-Q-Qiu Q-Q-Qiu y-y-y-y-you’re also here to sign up?”

Xiao Li fiercely slapped the table. “He’s signing up!”

“A-a-a-are you s-s-singing solo or d-d-d-d-d-do you need a guitar?”

“He’s singing without music!”

“W-w-w-w-what is he singing!”

“《I Am Only A Little Sheep》!”

Qiu Qiu: “……???”

The volunteering little sister: “…………???”

After waiting for fifteen minutes, Qiu Qiu, with a stupefied face, grabbed the microphone and headed up to the stage.

Qiu Qiu wore jeans and a white shirt today, giving a refreshing look. His face was without a speck of foundation, and in the sunlight, it seemed to shine brightly.

The moment he stepped onto the stage with a sunny and handsome face, a clean and relaxed temperament, and a shy, bashful expression, the judging panel, who had been drowsy and muddle-headed, immediately woke up and became clear-headed.

A staff member of the production team rushed over to some of the judging panel from behind and said warningly, “This is A City’s campus beau, and from the rumors, his singing is not bad. In a bit, as long as there’s no accident, give the advancement!”

As a result, the accident appeared.

This contestant was good everywhere, only his brain was a bit lacking for a male god. He sang 《Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf》. [3]

The judging panel: “……”

How the fuck do you pass this???

The young man indeed had an excellent stage presence. Even though he was singing such an awkward song, his face was without indignation and the spectators below the stage had a good laugh. They were heckling and belittling him, but unexpectedly, he did not go off key for even a bit. Not to mention, this contestant had a photogenic face. He only had to laugh bashfully after he finished singing, and he won the hearts of the two female judges who were old enough to be his mom.

Amongst the judging panel, a furious discussion came to life.

The two female judges: “We’re passing this! It must pass! It’s also for the sake of the show. This face of his is worth 500,000 Weibo fans ah ah ah!”

The three male judges: “If《Pleasant Goat》can pass, then why didn’t you let《Little Apple》[4] pass?”

The situation was in a deadlock. No one noticed the externally lowkey but internally luxurious commercial car parked on a street not far from the plaza.

Fu Ruien was leaning against the back seat and, separated by the car window, he fascinatedly watched the dazzling youth on the stage.

He remembered in the days when they still had contact with each other, Qiu Qiu would hold the guitar and tenderly sing the love songs he wrote in Fu Ruien’s ear. The youth’s timbre had a unique charm, and every time he crooned, it tugged on Fu Ruien’s heartstrings.

In the world, there are people who were born for the stage, and ten thousand people who were born to witness it.

Fu Ruien ordered his secretary, “think of a plan for Qiu Qiu to advance.”

The secretary clutched his phone and got off the car.

Five minutes later near the stage, a burst of cheers came forth. The screen showed all five judges unanimously gave Qiu Qiu the pass card.

Fu Ruien smiled, satisfied.

The secretary once again got back into the car and respectfully reported, “Boss, ‘Super Generation Voice’ already agreed to be our exclusive title. Because it’s a new and small program, the sponsorship fee is only two million.”

Fu Ruien: “When did I say I was going to sponsor this broken show?”

Secretary: “Boss, Young Master Qiu unexpectedly sang a kid’s song. If you don’t sponsor, there’s no way for him to advance.”

Footnotes:

[1]: Tripitaka is the monk from Journey to the West, known to be kind beyond belief–which is very accurate when describing Qiu Qiu lol. Instead of sugar daddy, he’s a sugar Tripitaka.

[2]: This term has been used before as “school’s most handsomest boy,” but I changed it to male god because it makes more sense.

[3]: Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf is a well-known kid’s show in China. My sister used to watch it a lot when she was younger lol. Only reason I know it.

[4]: “Little Apple” is a pretty classic Chinese pop love song–it’s really sappy though. Really catchy too.

Whew, another chapter. This is going to be the last one I upload for a while. I may or may not stop translating this novel or mass update it. It’s a toss up ¯\_( ツ )_/¯

  1. Did Xiao Li gave up or what? But I guess she was overwhelmed with Qiu Qiu being too kind. But she still took advantage of how Qiu Qiu doesn’t say no to a girl. I really don’t understand girls (even if I’m a girl myself).

    Thanks for the chapter.

    1. She didn’t give up–she wants revenge through humiliating Qiu Qiu by having him sing a kid’s song in public, basically. It’s like asking him to sing “I’m a little teapot,” but the Chinese vers lol.

  2. I’m so speechless how this girl and some characters are doing crimes, like seriously, you could sue them at this point. I decided to leave my IQ and continue for laughs cuz MC is worth it.
